Something feels different in the darkness. I can’t figure it out. I have no idea where I am, but it’s cold here…so cold. The nip in the air might be a blessing somehow. I’m not sure if I’m in the same darkness that I have spent my years or if somehow I am elsewhere. The chill in the air and the fear creeping in on me turn my shivers to trembling.
I have Bear clenched to my breast. I can’t open my eyes to see him, but I feel him with me. Why can’t I open my eyes? I try but it feels like my eyelids are heavier than they have ever been. I try to curl up tighter to Bear and can’t move. My body hurts so much, I can feel the ache, but why can’t I move?! What is going on?!
“Eve! Eve, wake up!”
I could feel myself being violently shaken by the hands of a man, but I couldn’t open my eyes.
“Eve! ”
SLAP!
My face burned, my eyes burst open to a blinding white light in an overly bright room. Still, can’t move my body.
“Eve, look at me. This has to stop.”
I peered toward the voice & felt my mouth form a silent scream. My eyes widened in terror as I finally was able to move, pulling my wrists against the restraints.
It was HIM!
Live in the flesh, it was Him who had been terrorizing my dreams for as long as I could remember. His face hung above me, watching as I thrashed trying to get away. His white jacket blended in with the surroundings. People began to appear from each corner of the bed, trying to hold me still. I saw him holding a needle and felt the sudden Prick! into the side of my neck.
HE was here & HE was the one in control of my psychosis. He was in control of my being. He had me. I tried to comprehend the magnitude of this reality, but my vision went dark & all I could hear were my own blood curdling screams.
The sound of muffled voices seemed to wake me slightly after what seemed like days later.
“You can’t keep her like this forever. It’s been too long already,” I heard a voice say.
“What choice do I have? She’ll never be the same,” I heard HIS voice.
“You could lock her up. You can turn the case over and move on,” the other, older voice said.
“I can’t. I made a promise,” I heard HIM say.
“Or, you can always let her go. You know what I mean, a genuine act of kindness,” I heard the other voice say before the footsteps of the two men seemed to leave the area.
What the HELL was going on?! My eyelids fluttered and I barely looked up to see someone standing next to me and another needle being inserted into what looked like an IV line. Again, I slipped away into the darkness.
